About the Project
The mission of the Declaration Resources Project is to create innovative scholarly resources to support teaching and learning about, and ongoing engagement with, the Declaration of Independence. Our goal is to encourage and equip individuals to engage with the text and context of the Declaration in new ways.
The #DeclarationofIndependence was first printed in British newspapers this week in 1776, only 2 weeks after the text was printed in South Carolina. Some British papers censored the text, even going so far as to change words or only excerpt portions.
The majority of the 56 signers of the #DeclarationofIndependence signed #onthisday in 1776, but some signed later.
Example: George Wythe and Richard Henry Lee signed above Thomas Jefferson's signature when they each returned from Virginia (Lee in August, Wythe in September). t.co/A02Q04xHIx
